FOAMSCAN™

Foam Analyzers and Defoamer Testers

FOAMSCAN™ the most accurate Foam analyzer for your Laboratory.

Liquid foams are ubiquitous in various industrial processes and in our everyday lives. Being able to generate a controlled liquid foam and understanding the phenomena responsible of its destabilization is hence crucial to optimize formulations.

FOAMSCAN™ is the solution to get science-based foam analysis and scientifically optimize foam-forming or foam-prevention products and process

FOAMSCAN™ offers a smart combination of image analysis and conductivity technics to measure Foam volume, liquid volume, liquid fraction and Bubbles size and distribution. One measurement delivers reliable data to study Foaming capacity, Foamability, Foam density, Foam stability, Drainage or effectiveness of anti-foams.

FOAMSCAN™ Foam Analyzer

FOAMSCAN™ Key features and Benefits

3 Foam generation modes
FOAMSCAN™ modular design allows to study foam generated by gas injection, by mechanical stirring or produced with an external device.
By providing accurately controlled foaming whether by gas injection or by mechanical stirring, FOAMSCAN™ enables reproducible, precise and process-related measurements.

100% software control
FOAMSCAN™ software offers a smart combination of image analysis and conductivity measurements to provide with an accurate set of results characterizing:

  • Foaming properties: Foam Volume, Liquid volume, Gas volume (mL), Foam Wetness (%), Foam Capacity, Foam Expansion, Foam Density, Antifoam effectiveness (sec)

  • Foam stability properties: Volume decay (mL), Drainage (% liquid fraction), Foam volume half-life time (sec), Liquid stability half-life time (sec), Foam stability index, Defoamer persistence (sec)

Protocols, time, gas flow rate, stirring speed are easily set in pre-set measurement protocols.

Automated cleaning can be programmed after measurement saving precious time and avoiding manual cleaning.

FOAMSCAN™ provides science-based data to optimize foam-forming or foam-prevention in many products and processes:

  • Foamability of daily products: body care, cosmetics, food, barista, beer, sodas...

  • Product Formulation: surfactants screening, quality improvement, reducing raw materials, product performance optimization

  • Foaming and Wetting properties for Cleaning and coating products

  • Expansion and foam insulation properties of Firefighting foams

  • Creating solid foam structure and for construction materials

  • Absorbing or applying pressures for natural resources extraction

  • Froth flotation as a method for separating solids

  • Foam-Assisted Chemical Flooding for Enhanced Oil Recovery

  • Foam-reducing agents and Anti-foams effectiveness

BubbleStatistics™ software to analyze the images of the foam structure

The images of the foam structure are captured by the FOAMSCAN™. Foam structure properties are  analyzed thanks to BubbleStatistics™ software.

As soon as the images are downloaded in BubbleStatistics™ software, a Thresholding algorithm is applied and statistics are calculated automatically.

  • Statistics are calculated per bubble: Diameter, mean Radius, Perimeter, Area, Elliptical ratio, Eccentricity, Circularity

  • Bubbles statistics are calculated over time: Bubble count, Density, Sauter Diameter, Bubble area, liquid area, Polydispersity index, Liquid fraction

For more refined results, analysis can be fine-tuned using classification and analysis filters

JETSCAN™ - Foam generation by Jet circulation / defoamer Tester

JETSCAN™ has been designed to measure defoaming agents' efficiency and persistence on foams produced by liquid jet circulation, using image analysis technics combined with TECLIS software.

Measurement can be done up to 90 °C. Temperature, liquid volume, flow rate, defoaming agent quantity, and cleaning cycles are 100% controlled by the software to ensure perfect reproducibility of the measurements. Once, the Defoamer is injected:

  • effectiveness is evaluated from the ratio of the foam volumes after defoamer introduction (knock down effect).

  • persistence is measured by the time needed on reaching the maximum foam height with the presence of defoamer

Fully automated, JETSCAN™ controls experiment parameters, collects and injects up to 28 defoamer samples, measures foam volumes, clean the whole system after testing which gives the JETSCAN™ a high added-value in high-through-put defoamer testing.

Antifoam and defoamer effectiveness applications

  • Food and beverage production, processing and packaging, dispensers

  • Laundry detergent manufacturing

  • Paper industry and bio sourced material

  • Industrial wastewater treatment

  • Home & personal care

  • Foam prevention for paints and varnishes
